Takashi Yamazaki (born June 12, 1964) is an acclaimed Japanese film director, screenwriter, and visual effects supervisor, widely celebrated as a pioneering figure in Japanese blockbuster cinema and CGI integration. Yamazaki began his career at the visual effects studio Shirogumi, earning initial acclaim for directing hits like the Always: Sunset on Third Street trilogy and animated features like Dragon Quest: Your Story. He achieved historic international status by writing, directing, and supervising the visual effects for Godzilla Minus One (2023), which became the first Godzilla film and the first Japanese production to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Yamazaki returns to helm the direct sequel Godzilla Minus Zero (2026) as writer, director, and VFX supervisor.
